American Girls and Voting

The American Girl dolls have always been active in their community and creating history. While they are fictional characters, the time periods are very much real and bring attention to how far we have come as a country and how much farther we need to go.

Take Samantha, fighting for women’s right to vote. Melody fighting for racial equality. Rebecca speaking up against unfair labor laws. These characters are the introduction to many heavy topics for a lot of kids. They teach us how the world used to be and how, even as a kid, we can change that. The American Girls are inspiring. They give us hope. They give us strength. They inspire us to be our best selves and speak out when we see a wrong. So why is politics different? Why do we shy away from using the dolls to voice our opinions?
